Mechanical Design Engineer Intern at Speck Products for the summer of 2019. Speck is a leader in their category for electronic device cases and accessories, and are now expanding into the travel industry. While at Speck, my primary project was to redesign the architecture of Speck’s most popular case and core business product — an initiative focused around simplifying manufacturing, reducing costs, improving sustainability and increasing industrial design opportunities. The project began with early concept ideation, but evolved into paralleling-pathing two unique injection molded case architectures through tooling. In roughly eight weeks, I designed two new distinct architectures, worked through DFM with overseas vendors to optimize the design for manufacturability, and ultimately kicked off tooling on my final day. My work on the Presidio2 Pro case (link below) has been patented, and the product is on sale in stores. Specific project details are limited online, but please contact me directly for more information.
Beyond the above project, my work at Speck included:
+ Designing and shipping two different phone cases. Design to market in roughly eight weeks.
+ Design, DFM and tooling kick off for a custom testing fixture setup for improved internal testing and documentation.
+ Created and executed multiple test procedures for quality assurance and product validation.
